Autumn simple fruit cakes | 秋果物で素朴なケーキ

Apples… which instantly reminds me of this most ridiculous YouTube video, seemingly a global mega-hit. Pen Pineapple Apple Pen by pikotaro Check it out…it’s just simply ridiculous. Getting back to my post subject, come autumn having a baking item in the house becomes welcoming. I believe the approaching winter is stimulating the body to accumulate fat and the craving of sweets increases but I like to stay relatively healthy by making my own confectioneries from scratch, using less sugar, butter and oil. Caramelized Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake | ルバーブをケーキ作りに…

Having grown up in Ireland (as well), rhubarb was quite a common vegetable which was often used for my confectionery baking ingredients – cakes, pies, tarts to even puddings and mousses. However rhubarb is not common in Japan only quite recent, of it’s vivid red color that pâtissiers in Tokyo are starting to using to accentuate their beautiful confectioneries, jams and sauces. For my home baking……(apart from what goes turn into jam), I keep a short stack of rhubarb in the freezer. Rhubarb Almond Crumble Cake

Is RHUBARB a fruit or vegetable? Rhubarb has always been one of my favorite – vegetable? fruit? since having lived long in Ireland during my childhood. Looking it up in wikepedia; Rhubarb is considered a vegetable, whichever it may be…. it is a great baking ingredient!! Rhubarb seem to prefer the cooler climates and since the Japanese climate are quite hot and humid in the summer; vegetation of rhubarb seem limited concentrating in higher elevations such as some parts of Nagano (Shinshu-area) and Hokkaido.   A moist almond crumble rhubarb cake.
